Sunset Dunes Improvements Underway

A Suite of Park Improvements

This initiative includes a suite of improvements to add basic park amenities along this scenic, two-mile-long oceanfront park. Work will be done to improve the park’s signage, play spaces, and other features to make Sunset Dunes more accessible and welcoming for everyone.

These improvements are complemented by an art program which includes murals, sculptures and other art pieces generously funded, installed and maintained by the Friends of Sunset Dunes .

Current Projects

Sand Play & Exploration Area ( Summer-Fall 2026)

This pilot project will create a temporary installation called "Shipwreck Cove" at Judah featuring sand play and dune education. It will be installed by [Friends of Sunset Dunes](https://sunsetdunes.org/) , in partnership with SF Rec and Park, starting in July 2026. Expected completion by September 2026.

The installation will feature a ship-inspired play structure, sand play and interactive educational features that will allow families to learn about Ocean Beach’s unique dune ecosystem, native plants and coastal wildlife.
